Changing Patterns and Traditions

Changing patterns and traditions when going alcohol-free has been such a journey for me—one that I NEVER imagined I’d be on, but wow, am I grateful for it. It’s funny how much of life revolves around a drink without us even realising it. For me, it wasn’t just the obvious moments like celebrations or dinners out; it was also the quiet ones, like pouring a glass of wine while cooking or settling in after a long day. These habits were so automatic, I didn’t even question them—until I did.

When I decided to go alcohol-free, I thought it would just be about finding a new drink (hello, soda water, ice, and lemon—aka Bare Bubbly). But it turned out to be about so much more. I started to ask myself, “Why do I reach for a drink in this moment?” and “What do I really want instead?”.

It turns out, I didn’t actually need alcohol to unwind or celebrate or connect with people. I just needed to change the patterns. Now, at the end of the day, instead of pouring a glass of wine, I take a walk, write in my journal, or just sit and breathe for a few minutes. I’ve started celebrating wins with things like a fancy alcohol-free drink, treating myself to a little gift, or even booking a fun experience I’ve always wanted to try. And socialising? I’ve reimagined that too! Coffee dates, nature walks, or cozy nights in with friends have taken the place of boozy catch-ups—and honestly, I think I laugh harder and listen better now.

The biggest surprise for me? Realising how much more joy I feel in these moments now. Without alcohol, everything is just... sharper, brighter, more “me”. I notice the tiny things—like how good a mocktail can taste, the sound of laughter filling the room, or how cozy it feels to snuggle up with a good book.

Changing traditions isn’t about losing something. It’s about gaining something better—like waking up clear-headed, being fully present for the people you love, and creating a life that feels authentic and joyful. Sure, it’s a little uncomfortable at first to step away from the old habits, but what’s on the other side? Absolute magic.

So here’s to building new traditions, breaking old patterns, and discovering that life really does sparkle brighter without alcohol. If you’re just starting your journey, trust me, it’s worth it. And if you’re further along, let’s raise our Bare Bubbly to the joy, connection, and mornings we’ll always remember. Cheers! ✨🍋
